NYC Suggestions Needed!

Howdy!

As if things couldn't get busier around here in the O. Household, we're jetting off to New York City and Long Island tomorrow! We'll be spending two full days in the city and then visiting some dear friends of ours who live on Long Island for two days.

I've got a few things in mind for while we're there, but I would be silly not to ask for reader suggestions on places to go, things to do, where to eat, and what to buy!

So far, these are my three priorities in NYC, aside from typical tourist-y stuff (Times Square, Empire State Building, 5th Avenue, etc.).

You know me, cupcakes are a priority on any occasion. I've been DYING to try Crumbs, but there are none in a 500-mile radius of me!! And I also think it's amazing the cupcakes come in different sizes.

This is going to be a total crap shoot, as they're sold out for the next three years. They have a lottery each night for a select number of folks to score $32 tickets. We're going to attempt to get in each night we're there.
Texas is such an idiot for not jumping on the H&M bandwagon. Every time I go to a state where there is one, I'm there. Looking forward to scoring some flowy dresses and tops that can easily transition with my baby bump.

So, here's where you come in! Leave me suggestions below! If you've been, what do you like to do in NYC?

I'm really interested in hearing your food suggestions, as I am a huge foodie and will always want to go to a NON-chain restaurant when I travel. There are so many celebrity restaurants there, I have no idea where to start! Greg is also a huge pizza fan, so give me a good pizza suggestion (the more hole-in-the-wall off the beaten path, the better).

Looking forward to reading your suggestions!

Call Stephanie and have her meet you for lunch or dinner. She gives fab ideas.

Also, I know you've been to Magnolia Bakery before, but have you had their banana pudding? It's dreamy. I liked Crumbs, but I'd take the banana pudding from Magnolia over them any day.

I definitely need to steal some of the suggestions you receive, because I will be in NYC next month! Have a wonderful trip!

The H&M near Penn Station is massive - you'll love it. One restaurant that's fun and I kind of love is called Joe Allen - it's on 46th between 7th and 8th. There's a ton of cute restaurants on that street, but that one is my favorite :)

Where on LI will you be? I grew up on the southwest shore - if it's nice and you have time, check out the beach! I usually go to Jones Beach, but kind of prefer Robert Moses which is a bit farther east.

Let me know if you need more suggestions! Have FUN!!

We loved Carnegie Deli (by Carnegie Hall obvs). THE best cheesecake I've ever had and they serve a bowl of pickles on your table - who doesn't love that? There is an amazing chinese food place in China town called 17 Wo Hop - open 24/7 and so good! Right around the corner from there is a bakery in Little Italy called La Bella Ferrara where we got some rainbow cookies (don't know exactly what they're called) and Canolis - to die for!
I've also heard the Shake Shack and Grimaldi's at the Brooklyn Bridge are excellent.

Oh, and bring me back a black and white cookie, would ya??

Well, my fave place in NYC is Yankee Stadium. But that probably doesn't help you. :) I agree about the Carnegie Deli's cheesecake-- it's amazing, and I don't even like cheesecake.

I love New York-- you'll have so much fun! :)

The best NYC pizza i ever had was from a place called Maryanne's. Not sure where it was located though... Maybe you could check out the World Trade Center stuff and Radio City Music Hall! H & M and Victoria Secret are huge there!

Since my phone died last night, here are a few more things I would add to your list:

-I haven't been to Carnegie Deli, but I love Katz's. It's the deli where they filmed "When Harry Met Sally," and it's in a cool area of town, too. Cash only.
-I second Magnolia Bakery, but not the one by Rockefeller Center. The original one down in the village.
-I realized we definitely need to get to H&M in the city because then it's tax free!
-46th Street between 8th & 9th is called Restaurant Row, and you guys will go nuts there. So many good and unique places to choose from! Last year, we had dinner there at this really good Brazilian restaurant.

BTW, Kevin and I were terribly impressed with ourselves that separately we made the exact same plan with you and Greg. Apparently, we've begun to think alike. Can't wait to see you on Friday!!!!!!!!!

So jealous!! I really hope y'all can see the Book of Mormom. I am dyingg to see it. Do you like rice pudding at all? If you haven't tried it, have you ever wanted to? If so, I have a recommendation for THE BEST RICE PUDDING IN THE WORLD. There's a place that serves nothing but rice pudding, and it's awesome. For pizza, the standard Grimaldi's in DUMBO and Lombardi's. Yum yum.

I agree with Caitlin. Go to the Magnolia in the Village. It's much more charming, and you can either eat your goodies under the shade of some trees in a park right across the street or while window shopping. The one near Rockafeller was a zoo and a half.

Food? We loved WD-50 and this Lebonese placed called Moustache that Stephanie took us to.

THE MODERN ART MUSEUM.

okay, so crumbs is a must...they're everywhere so you'll definitely cross that off your list early.

you should check out the peanut butter co. in greenwich village. they make all their own peanut butters (several kinds) and have all kinds of crazy sando combinations.

basically anywhere you go in little italy will be AMAZING, but there's a great karaoke bar that you should try to hit up called Mulberry Street. I'm pretty sure the guy that runs the joint is in the mob, which is pretty awesome.

H&M is a good call too. If you see a Zara though, you must drop everything you are doing and go in. Literally, you can not go wrong.

The cupcakes look AMAZING!

I've never been to NYC so I can't offer any suggestions... hopefully when you get back you can tell us all of the things that you loved about the big city!

If you're going to venture to Brooklyn, you have to visit Coney Island! It's the home of the ever-famous Cyclone and a huge Ferris wheel that has swinging cars. If you're into quirky fun and boardwalk food, the trip is worth it for sure. Go on a weekday--weekends are MADNESS.

There are some really great restaurants downtown as well. Home is a wonderfully delicious restaurant in the West Village that uses fresh, sustainable ingredients. There are a TON more, depending on the area you'll be in (you can email me if you'd like more suggestions!).

Oh and you have to go thrifting! Housing Works, Angel Street Thrift Shop and the Salvation Army are a few places I frequent. It's so much fun and I almost always find books, accessories, hats, etc. for less than $5.

Have fun!

I had no idea you were coming to NYC! I live on Long Island! Crumbs cupcakes are awesome!! There are tonssss of things to do! I wish I could have known I would have given you a full run-down but it sounds like you have some great things in mind for the days you'll be here! :)

I live on the other side of the River, so i'm in NY often.

For one of the city's best burgers and shakes, a local favorite is Shake Shack http://www.shakeshack.com/

Another of my favorites is The MeatBall Shop.... Yep, it's meatball heaven :)http://www.themeatballshop.com

And my last favorite- if you like peanut butter, (who doesnt?) you MUST MUST MUST check out Peanut Butter @ Co

http://ilovepeanutbutter.com/sandwichshop

The Palmer is to die for!

Have a fun trip! If you want to escape the chaos of the city, but still have the city vibe, take the path (5 minutes) right into Hoboken NJ... Tons of bars and nightlife - about 1/4 of the cost of what it costs in NYC!

Enjoy!!

I really want to see the Book of Mormon, especially because I live in UTAH and I'm NOT mormon, haha! I love H&M... Utah finally is opening one. And you can't really go wrong with cupcakes... I really miss NYC! I used to visit there when I lived on the east coast. Never really had one of those trips to enjoy the non-touristy stuff. Hope you had so much fun!
