While in New York City, Greg and I did a lot of walking around and just looking at the city. The first day we were there, we must have walked well over 5 miles! No wonder people are skinny there. That's always been my biggest experience in big cities- lots of walking and eating whatever you want. I studied abroad in London during college and I never worried about what I ate because I was always walking somewhere. This was no exception for NYC.
Anyway, I wanted to share some photos of sights we saw around town. Instead of doing recaps of each day, I figured highlights from certain things would be more fun. Today, I want to focus on the sights. After all, walking (and subway-ing) everywhere around the city is definitely sightseeing.

| This is our hotel for the first night - the Hilton Fashion District. Great hotel in a cool area of town. Greg and I stayed at a different hotel for the two nights we were in NYC, using our reward points. Nothing better than a swanky hotel for FREE! And, NYC hotels are freaking expensive (we're talking standard $250+ a night). |
| We started walking around that first night and I saw Times Square in the distance. 20 minutes later, we were there and hunted down some good NY pizza. |
| Ground Zero. We weren't blessed with particularly great weather, but it made for a haunting and thoughtful picture. |
| Inside St. Paul's Chapel next to Ground Zero. A lot of the 9/11 Memorial stuff is in the chapel. It is very moving and heartbreaking. |
| This theatre girl's gotta take a picture of the street in which theatre mecca calls its home in the US. |
| This is the altar at Holy Trinity Church close to Wall Street. Gorgeous. |
| The NYSE. It's a shame you can't go in and watch the action! |
| I mentioned we weren't blessed with particularly good weather, right? Well, we picked the best moment to walk a mile in the rain with our luggage from the first hotel to the second. I had my rain boots on, so I was good. It was kind of a fun experience, though (maybe not for Greg who was pulling the 50 lb. bag while I used the pregnant excuse not to carry anything heavy). |
| Our second hotel, the Hotel Andaz on 5th Avenue. It was a very unique hotel. I love staying in unique places when I travel - not just the expected. Even though we stayed in Hilton and Hyatt brand hotels, they were very special. These two photos show the exterior and the lobby. |
| The NY Public Library. Beautiful building. |
| This hotel room was one of the coolest hotel rooms we've ever stayed in (and believe me, I've stayed in a lot of hotel rooms in my lifetime). These pictures don't even do it justice. That's just the bathroom, btw. The room came with free snacks and drinks (who does that in the first place?) and it was very modern, quiet, LARGE, and comfortable. Go check out their website to look at better photos of the place. |
| In the middle of Grand Central Station. Greg's about to bust a move in a flash mob, btw. |
| There were hundreds of NY Police Officers lined up here. We couldn't exactly figure out why, but we think it was voting day for something. It was just really neat to capture this and that many police officers at once. |
| In the middle of Central Park. Hardly anyone was there, since the weather wasn't great. So it was kind of cool to walk around with hardly anyone in the middle of Manhattan. |
| Walking past NBC News. NBD. |
| Well, there's Rockefeller Center. |
| And Saks... on Fifth Avenue. NBD, again. |
| I thought this was a pretty Sephora. Go figure I would take a picture of a makeup store. |
| This is the view from one of our friend's apartment building - so cool! |
| And I'll leave you with my favorite photos of this bunch - inside St. Patrick's Cathedral. |
Have you been to any of these places before? We sure enjoyed our sightseeing!

Brings back so many memories looking at these pictures! We took a trip to NYC while I was pregnant, too! I was a lot farther along though, so the whole walking-72-blocks-in-the-freezing-rain thing wasn't so great, but they are fun memories now!
Glad you had a great time!
Gaaaaaaaaaah I <3 NY
I NEED to get back to NYC now!

Hey, if Greg won't let you have a sip at the Long Room, then he gets to carry luggage, right? Love, love, love the picture inside Holy Trinity.

Those pictures are amazing!!! How fun! The one of the cops is kinda cool. I feel like you should insert some joke about them waiting in line for free doughnuts or something, yuk yuk yuk.
Gorgeous! That church is beautiful!!
Great photos! If you are looking for a useful tool to help guide you around check out CityMaps...it is the best guide I have found so far! It literally has everything. There are so many things NYC has to offer. CityMaps makes it easy not to miss a thing!

Great pictures! I loved the cathedral pictures, and especially the library. Thanks for sharing them! I am determined to go to NYC one of these days...I tried to convince Hubs to take the train there one day while we were in DC, but he wouldn't deviate from the itinerary. Nerd.

Stopping by from the LB Tea Party.
New York is the perfect place to walk and not realise the amount of exercise you're getting! Love your photos! :) #commenthour
Oh wow after this blog I REALLY want to go visit NYC again! Thanks for the tip on the memory wall at St Paul's.
The last time I went to NYC we visited Ground Zero and they had taken down the memory wall about a week earlier. No one told us there was still one in the chapel! Now I have to go back.
I definitely agree with you that NYC is a walking city - that's what I want to do next time - go, stay somewhere in Manhattan (rather than Canarsee so far away) - perhaps in the Hilton in the Fashion District now... - walk all day for a week in the different neighbourhoods!
Thanks for this blog - it really brought back memories :)
I'm visiting from #commenthour (hey, better late than never!)
Looks and sound like you guys had a great time! Those hotels both look super fun and unique - love that you didn't go the "typical" route ;)
Love that you had a good time in NYC!
