This Labor Day weekend, I dared to do something new

I ate a cupcake that had BACON SPRINKLES.
(Katie, I totally thought of you.)

Yes, that top right cupcake was a banana cupcake with peanut butter frosting and bacon sprinkles. It was called the "Elvis Cupcake." During our visit with the in-laws this weekend (they live outside of Austin), my mother-in-law and I poked around a really cute town called Wimberley. Of course I had to stop at their cupcake stand.

So, what do I think of said bacon sprinkles? Honestly, I was surprised it didn't really taste that bacon-y. The rest of the cupcake overwhelmed it, and I didn't get a salty mouthful of bacon. Well, it was still fun to say I dared to do something new.

What about y'all? Anything new and EXCITING (I know bacon sprinkles is hard to top) this weekend? Hope you all are enjoying your day off! (If you're off, that is. If you're not off work, I'm sorry to rub it in. But not really.)

Somehow, banana-flavored cupcake with peanut butter and bits of bacon don't seem very appealing to me. But that double-chocolately looking one on the bottom right, that's a different story... that one looks DIVINE

Our state fair sells crispy bacon strips that you DIP into melted dark chocolate. I'm not going to lie - it's like the best thing I've ever had. Would I eat it everyday? No, but it was a nice change of flavors in my mouth! I bet the cupcake was AMAZING!

I went to two cupcake boutiques in Chicago and thought of you! Will be blogging about them soon! :)

I don't think I'd be brave enough to try it, but glad you liked it! We are going to Wimberly next month for a wedding & I'm excited to check out the wineries there.

That seems like such a strange combo, but I'll try anything (mostly anything) at least once!

There is a place in Chicago that has a breakfast cupcake: pancake cake batter, bacon bits, maple syrup. It's heavenly!

Exciting! I rode a horse for the first time ever, bareback...it's no big deal...but I felt like a rockstar. Haha.

I think Saturday was National Bacon Day (I read it on Twitter - maybe from you?), so your cupcake was perfect timing! I tried a chocolate bar with bacon in it once and it was AMAZING, so I'm sure your cupcake was even better. Mmmm.

Hm, sounds like it could be interesting. What is with Elvis things involving bananas and peanut butter? I had something called a fried Elvis at the Wisconsin state fair that was peanut butter cups fried in banana batter. To. die. for. There was no bacon involved though.

Maybe I'm just totally ignorant of Elvis in asking....

Oh and what was that chocolate one on the bottom left? Looks Ah-mazing.

Cupcakes like that make me nervous, but I'd be willing to try one like that. I love Wimberly, by the way. I have family there, and my mom goes every month for their big event called Market Days.

That's nuts! Were they like bacon bits or actual sprinkles that were "infused" with bacony goodness? I dont' eat bacon, but.. I totally want to try that. Yum!

Interesting... never even heard of bacon sprinkles. But I'd definitely try it! Especially if peanut butter is involved. :)

I went to Ouisies Table with some girlfriends once and one girl asked for the chocolate cake and a side of bacon. I nearly died but when I tried it I realized how good it was!
