Product Rave: Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion

I have battled with hormonal cystic acne ever since I reached my mid-twenties. Some times were worse than others, but I have never been able to completely eliminate the cycle of cysts that would appear along my chin and jawline. You know what I'm talking about if you've experienced those deep, under the skin, painful bumps that take forever to surface and heal. Luckily I had a good skin regimen and was able to keep them at bay for most of the time, but I definitely would have a cyst appear every two weeks or so.

Ever since getting pregnant, my face has broken out like a teenager all over again. I was able to keep it somewhat under control with my skin care routine but it was starting to get a bit ridiculous this summer. After searching some pregnancy message boards, and then further researching it on makeupalley.com (my favorite place to read and post beauty reviews), I decided that I needed to go and get Mario Badescu Buffering Lotion. I found it at my local ULTA. Keep in mind, however, it is not available on ULTA's website. It also looks like you can get this at Nordstrom.

I have to admit, I know next to nothing about Mario Badescu and his brand. All I knew is that the Buffering Lotion got tons of great reviews and I needed it. I still don't know much about the brand.... so anyone who uses it, please enlighten us!

And, why yes, that's Butter London nail polish in The Full Monty... in case you were wondering ;)

Product Claims:
"Specifically designed to treat large, deep, cystic acne, the buffering lotion covers large erupted areas for overall treatment. Formulated with nourishing B vitamins and amino acids for healthy skin as well as soothing anti-inflammatory herbal extracts to promote healing. Reduce cystic acne fast with this deep penetrating, fast absorbing formula."

At $17, this little baby doesn't come cheap, but I've been using it for about a month and I've barely made a dent in it. It's very liquid-y, and you have to shake it up to get it mixed up before use. After cleansing and toning, I use about a quarter-size amount all over my face. The instructions say to apply it to "erupted areas" but I haven't been paying attention to that (I'm a rebel). I have been using it as a preventative every other night (sometimes every night if I feel something coming on). I do not use any other additional moisturizer/night cream with this aside from eye cream.

Guess what? In the month that I've been using this, I've only had ONE deep pimple. And get this-- it dried up in TWO DAYS and didn't even surface. This is a miracle, seeing as how those babies can take up to a week to fully heal!

I can't speak on its ability to keep other types of pimples at bay, but I can say that I haven't had any other kind of breakout WHATSOEVER.

Y'all. This receives MIRACLE HG (holy grail) status.

THE END.

My face looks like a hormonal 16 year old boy. Awful.

I have 2 of his other products. 1 I love and the other one I'm not sure about yet. He has SO many options that I never know which one to get. but I'm definitely going to Ulta to snag this one! Thanks, Meg!

This has nothing to do with this product [though it does sound impressive], but I tried on the Smashbox O gloss at Sephora last week and OH.MY.GOSH. That is the best lipgloss I have ever encountered in my life. Your makeup recommendations are aaaamazing.

yes!!! mario badescu is the BEST!! i used to live in NYC and i had never heard of MB, but my dad got me a GC to the spa for my birthday, so i went and got a facial and let me tell you something...my skin never looked better in my whole life! there is magic and pixie dust and unicorn tears and angel spit in those products. every single one of them! there's not a flop in the whole line. i have tried just about everything they have, too.

i love the glycolic eye cream for night and i use the oil free moisturizer with spf for daytime during summer and the honey moisturizer for winter (wouldn't use that on acne prone skin though. since i was pregnant, my skin dried up like the desert). their drying potion is AMAZING too. it's totally weird, but it is a miracle. i love their toners too and the cleansers....oh i love it all!

Ooh, this is one to remember! So glad I'm not the only twenty-something with a face that likes to occasionally break out like a teenager.

Hope all is well with you - I have missed your blog! Though I like to think I'm fairly caught up with you since I follow your tweets. Stay well, Mama Meg!

It is so odd because I had not broke out since my teenage years and then I get pregnant and I start having trouble...in fact, last night I told the hubster that I have the hugest zit I have EVER had in my life! UGH!

I am for sure going to try this product because my regular face wash just isn't cutting it anymore.

THANK YOU for sharing your find! :)

i just posted a blog on this very product and a few of his others.... you can get free samples of his products by going to his website and taking the skin questionnaire. It'll ask your mailing and email address (he sends like maybe one a week). You don't have to buy anything but within like 4-5weeks generous samples of most of your recommended products from the questionnaire will come in the mail! I LOVE any line that allows me to try their products w/o having to spend $60 first :o)

I LOVE Mario Badescu products. I've been using his stuff for about a month (cleanser, toner, mask, eye cream, lotion, exfoliator, etc.) and not using anything else. I must say, my skin has brightened up. I'm really careful with my skin and thus have a good complexion, but needed a little boost. My favorite of his is the flower & tonic mask, as well as the drying lotion for the monthly zits I do get.
