However, ever since 3 and a half months old her sleep has gotten a little more interrupted. Kennedy has been a great sleeper since birth. In fact, I had to wake her to feed since she was jaundiced and we needed to get it out of her system. Yeah yeah, you can all hate me. I had that newborn who was perfect.
Lately, however, I've noticed her sleep has become more adult-like, which is pretty much by the book. Infants at this age have a bit more trouble falling back asleep unassisted. She wants to wake up and nurse.
She started showing many of the signs of a baby who might need to start solids. Her pediatrician recommended a small amount of rice cereal mixed with lots of breastmilk to see if that will help her be less hungry through the night. She said it's not pressing, so just when I can't handle her night wakings anymore.
So, we tried it. I can't say that it helped her sleep more, but I'm not even sure if she ingested much. Meh. We gave her a good week or two and decided it wasn't really helping her sleep. In fact, she had more trouble getting to sleep. She does alright once she's asleep, waking once.
I about pulled my hair out reading all of my baby sleeping books and thinking I was doing something wrong. Greg and I made the decision to try again at 6 months because there's no reason to give her something on the premise that it will "help her sleep" when it actually doesn't. We haven't given her any solids for three days and she doesn't miss it. She wasn't ready, and that's okay.
At least it made for a funny video! I had Greg do the honors of giving her the first solid food since my boob did the first honors of her liquid diet. My sister and I are cheering her on (I realize we do sound alike).
Gosh, this child's facial expressions are priceless.
My baby is already a drama queen.

Lol! She is too cute!
haha what a sweetie! you've got your work cut out for you!
oh my gosh the faces!! love it!! haha
"this tastes like brand new carpet"...HAHAHA
Emily didn't really eat solids at first either. She kept spitting it out too. You could try giving it to her in a bottle since it's so liquidy. You are lucky she is such a good sleeper though!
We had a vey similar situation with Jackson. I was holding out for six months, but just before 5 months he seemed hungry and not sleeping well. So we tried the food. and? He hated it and it didn't help him sleep. He wasn't ready. Just four short weeksmlaternthat kid started eating like an elephant and hasn't looked back. This sleep pattern will pass. Referring to too many baby books will drive you crazy, I say this from experience ha! Kennedywill get back to her normal sleep pattern and let you know whe it's time for food. As she sounds like a fairly easy going baby I'm sure it's just a phase. Hope y'all get some regular sleep again soon :)
She is so stinking precious!! You are a great mom and it's all about what is best for YOUR baby!
She is so adorable! I remember solids being such a big step for us too, but I couldn't wait longer than 4.5months and started feeding my girly then. It's so fun introducing them to new things!
And you're one lucky momma to have her sleep so well. Even waking up once a night is still amazing! My 17month old wakes up more than that. Haha
Hahhaa, poor K - she's like wait a second, this doesn't taste right!
ugh, I wish I could see this video at work!! I'm sure it's so cute! :) I don't have kids obvs so I can't give you advice, but I'm sure it will get better! My brother had colic and cried non stop until he was 2 so atleast it's better than that?
I still think she looks soooo much like you, Christine, and your mom!
She is SO CUTE!!!!!! Her faces are so adorable! I can't wait to be a mommy one day!!!!!
That video is priceless.
Anyway, I just want to say I love reading your posts about your baby. Both your's & Greg's devotion to Kennedy is so evident, even in the little things. Love just pours out of you guys as you dote on her. There was never any doubt you'd be a fantastic mother. If I miss wishing it to you the day of, I want to say now that I hope you have an INCREDIBLE first mother's day!!!!
