Product Rave - Revlon Colorstay Whipped Creme Foundation

If you know me, you know I am a huge fan of Revlon Colorstay Foundation. I sang it's praises, and I still stand by the fact that it is one of my holy grail foundations. It is comparable to Make Up For Ever Mat Velvet + foundation, but way better and way cheaper. I sort of stopped wearing all of my high end foundations because I really loved it that much. There is no shame in sporting Revlon. I truly believe that some drugstore products are just better than others!

When Revlon released their whipped creme version of my beloved foundation, I went out and immediately bought it. The reviews were looking good. I was positive I was going to love it before I even applied it. I'm pretty sure I ripped it open in the car driving home in attempt to play with it. (I was at a red light, for reference.)

FIRST THOUGHTS:
- The price on it is a dollar more than the liquid foundation, and you get less product (0.8 oz vs. 1 oz).
- When I opened the jar, it wasn't filled up all the way, which made me feel a bit jipped.
- The packaging is a bit unhygenic, as you have to scoop the product out with your fingers instead of a pump.
- Despite my sentiments for the packaging, it does remind me of something very high end and fancy. The glass is heavy (not that great for traveling), and quite a pretty jar.

USING THE PRODUCT:
- I find that you have to work even quicker with this foundation than you do the liquid foundation because it tends to cake if you do not.
- I like applying this with my Sonia Kashuk Blending Sponge. I run the sponge under water, squeeze out the excess. I then dot the foundation over my face and blend.
- The shade matches my skin pretty perfectly, and is identical to the liquid foundation.
- Coverage was pretty darn impressive. I like a full coverage foundation. I think this foundation is even more full coverage than the liquid foundation (major bonus)!
- The consistency wasn't any more "light" or "airy" than the liquid. I think the liquid is pretty thin and the creme has more of a creamy consistency (go figure), which doesn't necessarily make it lighter. Not a bad thing because I do like the consistency.

THE PRODUCT ON ME:
This photo is un-retouched. I also might add I didn't apply any concealer after using the foundation.

FINAL THOUGHTS:
- I definitely think this foundation is worth picking up, especially if you are a fan of the liquid.
- I don't feel like its "lighter" or "more airy" although I do like the consistency.
- If you don't know which one to get, I say go with the creme if you are new to Colorstay. I find that this one gives you more buildable coverage.
- This is not for you if you like a full coverage foundation.
- On that note, I think this foundation gives the best coverage of any foundations I've EVER tried.
- Basically, you need it if you're a foundation junkie like myself.

7 Months

Okay, peeps. I realize this post is like.... 2 weeks late (her monthly birthday is on the 17th). In my defense, we were on vacation when Kennedy turned 7 months old. So when you see her 8 month post two weeks from now, she's not growing at an exponential speed (although it sometimes feels like she is).

This was taken on her actual 7 month birthday on Cape Cod! I forgot her bear.
I think it's fun this is a special pic because we were in a special place!

KENNEDY LATELY:
- Sits up unsupported even better!! She can also hold herself up standing for a little bit!
- Can wear 9 month clothes
- She is doing really well on solids. Her favorite foods are avocado and oatmeal!
- Kennedy is talking talking talking! She loves people, places, and being in the action!
- I am not sure if she is all that interested in crawling, but she will sit on her hands and knees.
- She is still waking up about once per night. It's usually between 11-1 a.m. This is not going to be fun when school starts, so I hope it gets better.
- She and I have had such a fun time together this summer. We enjoy our time at the gym, running errands, and hanging out around the house.
- Kennedy has started rolling over a lot in her sleep. I'll find her sleeping on her belly! Apparently that is okay for her to sleep like that if she puts herself in that position.
- So many things happened since she's turned seven months so you'll just have to wait for two weeks to see what she's accomplished! Haha!

HOW SHE'S GROWN:
(Yes, I messed up and put months three and four the same picture so I just fixed it. My lovely husband Greg left a nice comment pointing it out.)
p.s. Like my new blog design? I pretty much did it in four hours. It's because I'm too legit to quit.

Three Years Ago...

(Technically, it was three years ago two days ago, but that's okay, right?)
I married the man I love, the father of my daughter, my best friend.

I'm posting this today because I'm a little behind from traveling, but it actually works out because Greg and I met exactly five years ago on July 27. We were both a part of our friends' wedding (Caitlin and Kevin's, to be exact). And the rest is history! I think it's amazing we both can look back on the exact day we met, remember exactly what we were doing and how we were introduced.

Now look at us! Older, married, and parents.

I've been making little video slideshows the past two years to celebrate, so it's only appropriate to do another one this year! Enjoy.

Greg,

This past year has definitely changed our lives, as we welcomed a new member to our family. I know it has been an adjustment for both of us, but one that has made our life more fulfilling. You are my rock. You help me stay strong and focused. Just know that I am thankful for you every single day and I am thankful for our family. I am so happy to be on this journey called life with you by my side (and sometimes ahead of me making plans or behind me picking up after me). I love you so much!

Happy Anniversary (two days ago)! I love you.

Our Cape Cod Trip

Well, folks. I'm back. It was a long 10 days, but it was amazing. We had such a blast! My husband is originally from Massachusetts, so it was fun to spend such a long time where he used to vacation. We went with his parents and brothers. They were great to vacation with! We went all up and down the cape, but stayed in Chatham. It was probably one of the most gorgeous seaside towns I've ever seen. Pretty much just like I envisioned it, but better! The weather was beautiful, the company was awesome, and the scenery was gorgeous! And let me just add... my darling girl is an amazing travel buddy! I have a feeling she'll be a jet setter!

I spent hours uploading and editing my photos, so it's only fair to share them with you immediately, right?

Our house for the week! Hydrangeas were everywhere on Chatham
Just steps from our house. Boats! I also love this photo of Kennedy and her grandpa.
We went whale watching out of Provincetown. It was amazing!
At Lighthouse Beach in Chatham
The Fish Market in Chatham has the most amazing Lobster Roll!
The seals and birds hang out by the fish market. The fish boats literally come up and dump off what they caught!

Out at Hardings Beach
Kennedy, Grandma, and hydrangeas!
Drinking a Cape Cod on Cape Cod! Out at Chatham Bars Inn. What a beautiful hotel!
The Cape Cod National Seashore. So gorgeous.
Out in Hyannis to see the JFK Memorial (aka the motherland). Cute little town! I can see why the Kennedys enjoyed the place.
Yes, I did make us wear matching stripes for a photo op. What can I say? I wanted a picture of us wearing stripes in front of a light house!

What an amazing time! Can't wait to do it again.

Baby O. in Photos (volume 9)

Who doesn't love looking at a bunch of pictures of my darling girl? I hope they brighten your day!

Shout out to Katie and Bree and their beautiful babies.

Also!
Kennedy learned hot to clap. And it's pretty much the cutest thing in the universe.
Thirty seconds of pure cuteness, I tell ya.

Product Review - Dove® VisibleCare™ Toning Crème Body Wash (plus $500 sweepstakes!)

I'll just be up front and say it - I'm a body wash junkie. I go through it rather fast (particularly because the hubby and I share) and I am always trying to find a body wash that is moisturizing, smells good, and doesn't contain harsh chemicals.

I have always found great products from the Dove® line. I am still a fan of their classic beauty bar, and I loved their unscented hairspray (but they discontinued it much to my dismay). I also just picked up their Nourishing Oil Care Detangler and I just love the way it is smoothing out my hair, particularly when applied to dry hair.

When Dove® sent me their VisibleCare™ Toning Crème Body Wash, I was so eager to get in the shower right away and give it a whirl. With claims like "visibly more beautiful skin from a body wash in just one week" I was excited to try it. I knew I would love it upon first sniff. With a warm ylang ylang and delicate wood fragrance, it was just my style. It also has robust citrus notes of mandarin and Italian bergamot. Yum.

Next thing I did was check out the packaging, ingredients, and claims. The packaging is very nice and sturdy, something that I definitely appreciate. Dove®'s VisibleCare™ Toning Crème Body Wash is designed to promote skin's elasticity and strength through their highest concentration of NutriumMoisture™ and added Vitamin E. It contains skin natural building blocks to help improve skin’s look over time.

I will say, that I really love the way this body wash lathers, the scent, and the feel of my skin after use. Just in one week I've noticed how soft and supple my skin has been. I've never really suffered from dry skin to begin with, but I can take any help I can get! I know it's important to nourish all of your skin and prevent signs of aging! I also appreciate that this body wash is paraben free. That is very important to me.
Cheers to beautiful skin!

And that's not all....

Unfinished

I've been meaning to write this post ever since Kennedy was born, but it's just been hard to do it. I think it's time to let y'all in.

My daughter has a birth defect.

No, it's not life threatening. Her "defect" is technically classified as one, but I happen to think she is not defective in any way.

Kennedy was born with what is called a "Coloboma of the Iris." Never heard of it? Neither did I, until she was 1 day old and diagnosed with it in the hospital. A coloboma is an incredibly rare condition that happens in about 1 in 10,000 births. There isn't much information on it, particularly when you google it, because it is that rare.

So, what's a "coloboma"? It's basically a little hole in the iris (you know, the colored part of your eye). Coloboma is Greek for "unfinished." You see, when we are in the womb, our eyes are formed at 5-6 weeks gestation. The iris typically seals up like a little zipper, but when it doesn't "zip up" all the way, the eye is left looking like the pupil is misshapen, or with a "keyhole" appearance. Sometimes this "cleft" can go all the way back through the retina, or it can be very small, just in the iris. Colobomas be in one eye (unilateral) or both eyes (bilateral).

Sometimes colobomas are associated with greater health issues, particularly CHARGE syndrome (yeah, that is really complicated to explain - follow the link). Sometimes colobomas can affect vision severely. All colobomas affect a person's light sensitivity, simply because the pupil can't restrict properly in bright light.

Here are some photos of various colobomas from around the internet.

Kennedy has a unilateral Coloboma of the Iris. It's in her right eye. Her pupil looks like an upside down tear drop. This picture is probably the best side view I've got.

I can, with confidence, report that her vision is 100% normal. She is developmentally on target for her age, and ahead in some of her milestones. She tracks objects great, can see people and smile at them from across the room. She grasps objects in both hands and can grab things without missing. She can even pick up very small objects. Our opthalmology appointment was a few weeks back and the doctor even told us not to come back unless we noticed a change or she had an injury to the eye. He also told me that her coloboma is so very tiny and doesn't even go back in her eye. This was the best news we could get!

When we learned about Kennedy's coloboma, my mother-in-law informed us that Greg's brother (Kennedy's uncle) was born with a coloboma, as well. This very well could be genetic, but there isn't enough research to know. My mother-in-law told us that his pupil ended up looking normal over time and that he just grew out of it. Nothing I've found on colobomas indicates that one may "grow out" of a coloboma, but you never know with such little information and research on this condition. Kennedy has the option of wearing a corrective contact lens in the future to mask the hole in her iris, and there are also corrective surgeries available. I would like to give her that choice when she is older, not make it for her, if she is still dealing with this.

Easter, at about 4 months old. Not the best picture of her, but a good one of her eye.

With learning about this condition comes a lot of worry, self-doubt, and blame you put on yourself. I felt like my body failed her and I wasn't able to produce a "perfect" human being. I was afraid that kids would make fun of her when she was older. I sometimes was ashamed of her eye and self-conscious about it. I hoped no one would notice it. I felt really alone because there weren't many people to talk to about it. Perhaps I'll find more through this blog post!

Some people have been afraid to ask me about her eye, and some people have flat out asked "what's wrong with her eye?" I suppose both are normal responses when you've never seen anything like that before. Heck, she is the first person I've ever seen like this before.

I just hoped and prayed that my little girl would be "normal" and no one would think she was weird.

Honestly? That was all selfish. Here I was, having sleepless nights over my child's eye when other babies like little Avery were taken from this world due to a terrible disease. One eye with a cosmetic defect wasn't going to stop Kennedy from being a normal child or stop me from ever thinking she was "different."

Through all of this, I always end up back at the meaning of the word "coloboma."

Unfinished.

Are we all ever finished? Are any of us really ever perfect? Yes, we are fearfully and wonderfully made by God, but He is the only perfect one. To me, Kennedy's eye is a reminder of how each of us have a lot to learn, a lot of mistakes to make, and a lot of reminding that we are human. We are a continual work in progress.

The more I think about this, the more amazing I feel my daughter is. Sure, I've seen thousands of pairs of eyes before. But never have I seen anything like Kennedy's. She is truly special.

And for the record, everyone notices how beautiful she is.
I happen to agree with them.

Centering Pinterest Embedded Images

I know a lot of you love to embed your pins into your blog posts. In fact, if you link up with Oh, How Pinteresting on Wednesdays with one of my BFFs, Michelle, you're embedding away on a weekly basis.

Isn't it annoying, though, how you can't center the attribution of the image underneath the pin? Well, let me tell you, folks. It's a really simple fix.

We'll go from this:

To this!
Source: someecards.com via Meg on Pinterest

Now, let's go to my favorite someecard board again. We'll let my screen shots do the talking.

After you've done all that, your image will not be centered when you click back over to "Compose". You can then select the image and center it in your post editor and all should line up!

If you are having trouble adding spaces in between pins or typing underneath your pin, go back to the HTML of the post and add the code <br/> wherever necessary. You should then be able to click back and type in some more text.

Hope this helps you in your adventures in embedding your pins! If you have any questions, feel free to leave them in the comments or shoot me an email.

Happy pinning!

June Beauty Favorites

I love that summer is an excuse to wear bright nail polish, lighter foundation, and flip flops. But wait, I wear flip flops about 90% of the year, anyway, so who am I kidding? I've picked up quite a few new things recently and I can't wait to tell you about some of my favorite things I'm using lately! All of the products I'm featuring really go along with the theme of "lighter and brighter"!

1. Sephora Collection Bronzer - Los Cabos
I went into Sephora looking for a bronzer to replace my beloved Laguna. As much as I am a die hard Laguna fan, I am not a fan at how easily it breaks and how it costs a pretty penny. I didn't want to shell out $30, and I wanted a bronzer with less shimmer and more matte. You see, I am not a fan of bronzers with a lot of shimmer in them. Call me strange, but I stand by this! I feel like they make your face look fat and sweaty because bronzers are typically applied in areas where you want to minimize or draw in. I like a matte bronzer because while it adds warmth to your face, it also brings those areas in without making you look like a sweaty fat vampire. If you would like to see how I apply bronzer, check out my highlighting and contouring post here. Anyway, back to the bronzer. I love love love this one. It's $15, the packaging is sturdy, there's a lot of product in the pan and the color is incredible! It is buildable, which I love, and adds the right amount of warmth I want. Seriously everything I want in a bronzer. I may not go back to Laguna. The only problem is Sephora likes to discontinue their own brand a lot so I really hope they don't discontinue this!

2. Studio Tools Crease Makeup Brush
Mandy posted about her favorite crease brush of all time, which just so happens to be $1.99 and at Target. Say whaaaaaat?! Of course I had to get it. I really love this brush and how it's so perfect for my eyelid crease. The MAC 217 brush is my favorite crease brush ever and this one is really almost just as good! Definitely worth purchasing! I might go back and buy another one to use for blending concealer under the eye or something.

3. MAC Studio Moisture Tint - Medium
I kind of purchased this on a whim, and I'm actually glad I did! I wanted something I could just slap on during the summer and eliminate the step of using a moisturizer with SPF. There's no need for me to put a full face on when I'm just running errands with the baby. This does the job, and well, I might add. The only qualm I have with this is the chemical sunscreen it contains. I kind of wish I would have read the ingredients before I purchased but since I do not wear this every single day, it probably doesn't make that much of a difference in the long run. Anyway, this stuff is awesome. It's cheaper than a lot of the higher end tinted moisturizers, and you definitely get a good amount. The coverage is light but it really evens out my skin tone. I do need to conceal spots if I am having a breakout, however. But that is to be expected of tinted moisturizer. This isn't full coverage foundation. The best part of this stuff is how it really keeps oil at bay. It stays very matte on my face the whole day, which is nothing short of a miracle for me. I bought it in the medium shade because these do run very light.

4. MAC Mineralize Skin Finish Natural - Medium
I ran out of this stuff a long time ago and I never got around to picking it back up. Why I waited this long I have no earthly idea! It's a wonderful setting powder on top of my tinted moisturizer and foundation. Or this is great by itself as a really light coverage mineral powder in place of foundation or tinted moisturizer. Love love love this stuff!!

5. Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment - Rose
I got this in a mini duo pack with the original lip treatment as my Sephora VIB birthday gift. I have been a fan of the original for a while, but gosh darn it, this Rose one is so pretty! It looks rather shocking in the tube, but it goes on as such a nice beautiful pink! The scent is a heavenly lemon scent and it is so moisturizing! It's pretty expensive, but I just might go back and repurchase when I run out! By the way, best Sephora birthday gift yet!

I have a few other things that are going to get their own reviews because they are just that special. I also am going to film a makeup brush vlog highlighting my brush collection and how I use them. Be looking forward to that!

What have you been loving lately? Leave me your favorites in the comments so I can check them out! I love product recommendations!

$50 Target Giftcard Giveaway!

Can you believe it's already July? That kind of upsets me because it means we're closer to school starting. Boo! At least I have a month and a half left to be with my little girl!

Who, I might add, is totally loving summer.

To celebrate July, Shelley from Hand in Hand and I are teaming up together to give away a $50 Target Giftcard! It's also Shelley's birthday month, so there's even more reason to celebrate! Shelley is one of my best blogging pals! She is definitely someone you need to go visit and follow. Her little girl, Emily, is just adorable, too!

Who wouldn't like that? I swear Target is a black hole for your money. Every time I go in there and somehow leave with shoes, makeup, a cute dress, wine...and oh, diapers. But since nobody really wants to buy diapers, why not give away a gift card you can use on yourself? Pick up those cute flip flops or an extra three of those oh-so comfy boyfriend shirts without even feeling bad. Do it on us!

Anyway, you probably didn't read the entry anyway, so just go ahead and enter the giveaway, why don't ya?

Good luck!
