DIY All Natural Hot Oil Hair Treatment

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that Extra Virgin Olive Oil to me is like what Windex is to the guy on My Big, Fat Greek Wedding. I use it as a makeup remover (seriously is the best I have found), a moisturizer, and on my hair. Not to mention I cook with it all the time.

You all have seen hot oil treatments in the store but you probably didn't know that many of them aren't that effective and just add weight to your hair. Plus, if you look at the ingredients, it's a list that's a mile long with weird, unpronounceable chemicals, and parabens.

Obviously that doesn't fly for me. If there is a natural way for me to treat my hair or skin, you bet your pretty toosh I am doing that. Plus, I had all these ingredients in my pantry.

DIY All Natural Hot Oil Treatment

To use olive oil by itself as a hot oil treatment is amazing on it's own, but I like amping it up with some organic coconut oil (one of the most amazing oils out there full of moisturizing properties) and local honey. (Did you know honey helps attract and retain moisture in hair? Who knew?!)

All I do is dump it all into a little ramekin (specific measurements aren't necessary - do what the spirit moves you to), pop it into the microwave for about 15 seconds (depends on your microwave - watch it to make sure it doesn't get too hot), mix it up, and brush it all over my dry hair with a pastry brush, focusing on my ends.

I then put a shower cap on my head to let the oils and honey really do their magic. You can also wrap your head in plastic wrap. Just as effective and twice as sexy. I leave it on for as long as I can. I usually do this right after Kennedy goes down and then wash it out in the shower a few hours later. I feel like this doesn't take much time out of my evening, and I don't mind sitting around the house blogging or watching TV with the oils on my head. Some people swear by doing this overnight and showering in the morning, but I have yet to try it.

I know that the shower cap look is extremely sexy on me.

I recommend doing this once every couple weeks or so. I truly think this really improves my hair's texture. It is also much shinier and more strong after these treatments. And it's cheap. So do it.

Okay, totally sold. I have all those ingredients now, too, so it will be super easy! Except a plastic pastry brush, but I am sure I can use a regular brush or just my hands or something. Does it wash out pretty easily?

Also, I've been hearing about using olive oil as a makeup remover, but I am wondering about a few things:

1. Does your skin smell like olive oil after? haha.
2. Do you use it around your eyes?
3. It doesn't make your skin oily?

I need to do this! I just need some coconut oil. My hair looks gross on the ends sometimes. Ooooh, that reminds me. I should probably get a trim before Blissdom!

ive done hair masks with honey and hate how it makes my hair hard and sticky. i always feel like it does the opposite of making it soft. i definitely will try the olive oil/coconut oil combo though. i want to look as sexy as you with my hair cap haha
