Teacher Fashion: Back to School

School has been in session for almost four weeks, and it feels like I am already in the thick of it. I am missing all the summer play dates, time with Kennedy/Greg, and my sleep. I will be the first to admit that I didn’t look forward to being away from Kennedy again.

However, one thing I do look forward to during the school year is dressing up. I tend to grow tired of really casual outfits and having to figure out ways to style jeans. In fact, I would rather dress up than dress down for school. But being a teacher is a special profession in that I’m on my feet a lot, and moving around a lot. Power suits and starched button ups are not part of the protocol. I teach and direct high school theatre, for goodness’ sake.

One thing I look for in pieces for work is things that I can dress up and dress down. I like fun, bright pieces that are comfortable. I also try to keep it conservative as well, without skirts being too short or tops being too low cut, but that’s probably a given if you work in education.

In the past six years of teaching, I have gotten many compliments on what I wear from my students. I don’t dress for them, but I know it’s a good outfit if they say something about it. I decided to start Instagramming some of my outfits at the beginning of this school year and many of my followers and friends have enjoyed them as well. So, why not blog about it as well?

Now, I’m definitely no fashion blogger. You see, I actually tried to take photos of my first outfit with my DSLR and remote in hand. One hour later and a bunch of blurry and weird photos, mirror selfies with my phone was definitely a better choice. And trust me, you don’t want Greg taking photos.

I love fashion, and I enjoy getting dressed in the morning. I like picking out which shades of eyeshadow I will wear and what lipstick I will pair. I’m an every day kind of gal, who isn’t constantly going out and buying the latest fashions. I like to find a couple of new, great pieces then recycle and remix all the time. Before school started, I bought some new pants, a few skirts, and a few shirts so they could fit in well with the rest of my closet. And below are some of my outfits from the first couple of days. Don’t judge me for blogging about them three weeks later. That’s just Teacher Fashion, for ya.

So, yeah. As you can see. Nothing fancy or special or even current about all the pieces that I’m wearing. The hardest part about this post was finding everything online that I’m wearing because it all doesn’t exist at this point in time. Keepin’ it real.
