While it’s definitely not cold down here in Houston, the drier months are among us. I’ve noticed that I am reaching for more moisturizers for my body. My skin is feeling tighter and drier, and I’ve been on the hunt for some great body care products to help me treat it. I am not a fan of added fragrances or unnecessary ingredients – I love products that perform with clinically proven ingredients with powerful results.
I recently had the opportunity and was thrilled to try out some products from Am Lactin. They’re best known for their products that treat extremely dry skin and Keratosis Pilaris. Since Kennedy has suffered from Keratosis Pilaris on the back of her arms, I was hopeful that these products would be beneficial for the both of us.
If you aren’t familiar with KP, it results from the buildup of keratin—a hard protein that protects skin from harmful substances and infection. The keratin forms a plug that blocks the opening of the hair follicle. Many plugs can form, causing patches of rough, bumpy skin. No one knows exactly why keratin builds up, but dry skin tends to worsen the condition. KP is oftentimes referred to as “chicken skin.”
There is no way to cure KP, but using products with alpha-hydroxy acids help exfoliate and help alleviate the dry skin associated with the condition. I know it sounds counter-intuitive to use exfoliating products with dry skin, but it really makes a huge difference almost immediately. This is also great for keeping skin youthful, which is imperative for me to start focusing on with body care.
All of AmLactin’s products are formulated with lactic acid, which is a powerful alpha-hydroxy acid. This is not irritating to the skin at all. If you want to learn more, watch this video about how lactic acid helps with dry skin. I’ve been using the AmLactin Moisturizing Body Lotion on Kennedy, which is formulated with 12% lactic acid. This product is safe for her to use, but be sure to check with your doctor before using new skincare products on your children. I love that this product is fragrance-free and absorbs quickly. Best of all, it’s helping to alleviate those pesky bumps on the back of her arms.
For myself, I’ve been loving the Restoring Body Lotion. It contains lactic acid, and a patented ULTRAPLEX® and 3 ceramides. I love using this right out of the shower on my body.
Before bed, I have been using the Hydrating Body Cream on my hands – a little goes a long way and it immediately hydrates.
On my feet, I’ve been using the Foot Cream. I’m seeing a huge difference on the dry patches on my heels.
I’m very happy both Kennedy and I are seeing such positive results from our AmLactin products. They are on permanent rotation right now!
