Easy Halloween Hair Tutorial – 1920s Flapper

Updated September 25, 2017

Thank you to Kroger for sponsoring this post. As always, the text and opinions are 100% mine.

I am so excited about this easy Halloween hair tutorial using all affordable hair products from Kroger. I’m going to show you how I go from zero to 1920s flapper in less than 5 minutes! The prep and the makeup take longer than the actual hairstyle. It was totally fun getting back to my theatre roots, as I have a lot of experience with stage hair and makeup. There’s even a fun video of the tutorial at the end of this post!

It was seriously fun getting back to my theatre roots, as I have a lot of experience with stage hair and makeup. There’s even a fun video of the tutorial at the end of this post!

First, gather all your hair goodies you snagged for buy one get one 50% off at the Kroger Beauty Event (it runs September 27 – October 10).

Kroger Beauty hair care items

I start this hairstyle with clean hair, but dirty hair totally works too! I wash my hair with the Ogx Biotin & Collagen Shampoo and Conditioner. I’ve been throwing these products into the hair wash rotation and love them! After a good wash, blow dry the hair.

Next, roll the hair with some hot rollers. This will give super defined and tight curls. Leave the rollers in for about 10 minutes. If you don’t have a set of hot rollers, use a small barrel curling iron and give yourself some tight ringlets.

While the rollers set is a great time to do your flapper inspired makeup!

After the rollers come out, I spray some Dove Detox and Purify Dry Shampoo into my roots and tease around the crown to pump up the volume.

After teasing, I do a deep side part and then put on a fabric/elastic headband (also found at Kroger). You could stop here, tease up all the curls to make them look bigger – this is a super cute look on its own!

We’re going to glam it up even more. Start on the side of the head with the part and wrap the hair around the headband. When you get all the way around, leave a lot of the front part of your hair out. Then tease that front section of the hair a bit to give it more volume and texture. If this is confusing, make sure to watch my short video at the end. It’s super easy!

Add a little clip in to give it more character. I had a feather hair clip, but a jeweled one would also be fun!

As a final step, I spray my hair with Herbal Essences Body Envy Volumizing Hair Spray. You probably should spray before adding a feather, unlike what I did!

Throw on a slinky dress with fringe, a string of long faux pearls (unless you’re fancy and have real pearls), jewel yourself up, and Charleston your way out the door!

Be sure to watch the fun short video of the process and I hope you give it a watch!

Don’t forget to check out the Kroger Beauty Event where you can buy one get 50% off popular cosmetics, hair, and skincare items. The event runs September 27 – October 10! I plan to stock up on some favorites!

Ended Spring Break with a little bit of glamping. Ended Spring Break with a little bit of glamping. 💁🏼‍♀️⛺️🪵 Ready to send these kids back to school! If you have kids, when is their Spring Break?

This RV resort I’ve tagged in the location is really cute with a lot of amenities and fun things to do! It’s our second year staying there during spring break. Wish the weather wasn’t so unusually cold, but I’m glad we had a cabin with a heater, lol.

p.s. I was really excited to put a song on with this photo like I was back on MySpace 🤣

We noshed at @islandgrillhouston for dinner and @commonbondbistroandbakery for brunch. We relaxed, the girls did a little swimming, and explored the area. City Place has a lot of fun activities going on throughout the year!

Thanks for having us, @cityplacenow!

Here’s my current AM skincare routine! I switch Here’s my current AM skincare routine! I switch up the products from time to time but it’s usually some variation of this:

1️⃣ Cleanse with water only and pat dry with towel. I am rinsing off the previous night’s skincare and I don’t find it necessary to use a cleanser. It can be too stripping.

2️⃣ Apply serums. I like to use a vitamin C serum (currently trying this Vanicream one - jury is still out) for some antioxidant benefits. Read up on the benefits on vitamin C for skin, there are lots! Then I use a hyaluronic acid serum for extra hydration.

3️⃣ Moisturizer. I swear this one is so amazing under makeup- never pills on me! It’s so lightweight yet incredibly hydrating. I’ll never stop screaming about it 🤷🏼‍♀️

4️⃣ ONE drop of facial oil under eyes and on lips. Any more than one drop is a mess under makeup. The one drop specifically helps me prep the under eye area for concealer. It’s a game-changing move if you struggle with the under eye area! I also like it on the lips to prep for lip products.

5️⃣ SPF! A step I’ll never ever ever skip. The most effective anti-aging skincare is honestly sunscreen. You want to make sure you’re using enough to ensure proper protection. A good rule of thumb is 2 fingers’ length, which equals to about a 1/4 tsp. This is for face and neck. Use more for chest and shoulders! My holy grail is this Korean sunscreen (you can find on Amazon). So lightweight and amazing consistency- I find it to play so well under makeup too!

GRWM - my current favorite makeup look 💄

Here’s 17 minutes of footage condensed into 60 seconds. 💁🏼‍♀️ If you’d like me to go live and just do makeup from start to finish - let me know! But for today’s video purposes, I’m sharing the process of my current favorite makeup look. And in true Meg fashion, this is about half high end, half drugstore.

I’ve been gravitating towards really simple eye looks with smudged liner and a really shiny cheek. Of course the contoured lip will always be a favorite.

Did you spot any of your favorite products, or items you’re wanting to try!

Here’s my current PM skincare routine! Because “…sO mAnY oF yOu HaVe bEeN aSkInG”

I change things up every now and then but it almost always is some sort of variation of this:

I double cleanse first. I start with a cleansing balm and then I follow up with my favorite CeraVe cleanser in the shower. And before you come for me, I think shower cleansing is literally superior - but you HAVE to make sure you’re turning the water temperature down. Don’t burn your face off. I’m a night showerer. It just works.

I have been getting a few spots of irritated/dry skin, there’s a patch on my eyelid (so convenient) and near my clavicle. I’ve been using this honey eczema therapy cream on those spots first, then following up with my beloved CeraVe ointment to lock it in and also create a barrier so my tretinoin will not irritate those spots.

After that, I go in with my hydrating serums - snail mucin and hyaluronic acid.

Next comes my tretinoin prescription. I get mine through Agency. My formula also has added niacinimide, tranexamic acid, and dexpanthenol.

Then we moisturize with the GOAT of drugstore moisturizers.

Lastly, I slather myself in my favorite facial oil. It’s just another added layer of hydration and truly feels amazing on the skin.

NOTE: I do not get directly into bed all glazed up. I let this all sink in for a little while so this doesn’t end up all over my pillow. I also usually wear my hair up with some baby claw clips to sleep - it’s a gentle hair style that somewhat preserves my hairstyle but also gets my hair away from my face.

ANOTHER NOTE: YES, I do skincare every freaking night. Some nights I will skip tretinoin and do all hydrating products and put a thin layer of CeraVe ointment on top.
