HD Powders: MUFE vs. ELF

Everything “HD” in makeup is all the rage, and has been for a few years. Brands like Make Up For Ever, Smashbox, and even Revlon have really capitalized on the idea of being “camera ready”. There are endless options out there to discover. After all, don’t we all have at least three red carpet events a month to attend? I know I’m always dodging that darn paparazzi and a perfect, camera ready face is a must when I go to the grocery store..

To me, a good setting powder can really make the difference in the longevity and the finish in your makeup. Since I tend to be oily, setting my liquid foundation is crucial.

I am a long time fan of Make Up For Ever’s HD Powder. It lasts forever, and is the most beautifully, finely milled powder. It helps my makeup stay for hours, keep me matte, and photographs nicely. The powder doesn’t settle into fine lines (isn’t that the worst when makeup cakes and ages you about ten years? Nothing like looking in the mirror and seeing your future!) and it’s pretty much the most perfect setting powder I had tried.

I then heard about a dupe. And if you know me, I love a good dupe (as recently evidenced by this post). I wholeheartedly believe that if I can find something cheaper that is of the same quality or better, I will use it. I don’t care if it’s Bonne Bell (even though I don’t think Bonne Bell carries HD setting powders). Side note: I just browsed Bonne Bell’s website and it is so precious! Tween makeup is hilarz!

So I took the gamble and got me some ELF HD powder…

WHAT’S THE VERDICT?
ELF, all the way.
You may all collectively gasp now.

$6 for the ELF powder is way more appealing to me than the $32 price tag that the MUFE powder has. Not only that, but I think the ELF powder performs amazingly. No, it is not identical, but it has definitely replaced my love for the MUFE powder.

I love sweeping this over my face with a big fluffy brush and then setting my concealer with a fluffy eyeshadow brush. It really does the job, and for 5 times less than what I was using before.

Alright, ELF. You win. This time.

I loved this powder….. until I took a picture of myself with the flash on! The flash on camera reflects of the powder. Aka ghost face!

Who has done an excessive amount of hand washing a Who has done an excessive amount of hand washing and hand sanitizing this past year? 🙋🏼‍♀️ That would be all of us. 😅 #DovePartner I know your hands are probably dry and angry and the rest of your body could use some moisture during the winter months. @krogerco has an amazing selection of personal care and beauty products that can help you be your best self this year. I’ve been loving the new @dove Nourishing Hand Sanitizer - it kills germs and actually feels moisturizing! And, of course, the Deep Moisture Body Wash is an old favorite of mine - great for the winter months or just for all the extra washing we’re having to do right now. Save time by adding Beauty and Personal Care products to your Kroger shopping cart, and your dry skin will thank you later. #UnileverPartner #UnileveratKroger #KrogerBestofBeauty
How we feel during yet another unprecedented event How we feel during yet another unprecedented event🤪 This Texas winter storm was wild, and completely heartbreaking to witness. It’s been a very hard week, and we are some of the lucky ones! Going without power for 3 days was not fun, but we’re very thankful we do not have any damage or burst pipes.

So many people have quickly responded and been so generous. Neighbors helping each other, kindness from grocery stores and restaurants, and help from people out of state has really made me proud. We will get through this 💪🏻

I’m sharing a bunch of resources in my stories, and I’m saving it all to a “HELP TEXAS” highlight. Feel free to share it or reference it!

Why does nothing surprise me anymore? 😂 We clearly don’t know how to deal and a lot of people were without power today (us included). Had to post this pic of the kids before Logan decided he was over it. His first snow, and he was not a fan. 😂 Hope all of my Texas friends are staying warm!

I’ve said this many times before, but postpartum I’ve said this many times before, but postpartum hair loss stinks! Even though I’m 1.5 years out from having a baby, I am still experiencing after effects. My hairline is still thin, and I’ve got a lot of baby hairs I’d like to grow faster. To help speed things along, I’m starting a “hair glow up” challenge with @bondiboost products. First product I want to mention is the Hair Growth Support Supplement. This product and their anti hair-loss support supplement are scientifically formulated to promote hair growth and reduce hair loss and thinning. Plus, they’re vegan-friendly, cruelty-free, FDA approved, and made in Australia. The Hair Growth Support Supplement contains awesome ingredients like zinc, silicon, biotin, and ascorbic acid to support the maintenance of healthy hair. Can’t wait to see what it’ll do for my baby hairs! [sponsored] #BondiBoost #BoostYourRoots
If you bleach or color your hair, what are some of If you bleach or color your hair, what are some of the ways you like to keep your hair healthy? Here are some of the things I do:

▪️ Stretch my color sessions every 3-4 months. I know bleach and color services can weaken hair, so I like a lived-in rooted blonde that looks awesome as it grows out.
▪️ Air dry my hair after washing and use hot tools sparingly.
▪️ Use color-safe products at home.
▪️ Most recently, I've started incorporating the new @redken Acidic Bonding Concentrate line.

This new launch from Redken is exciting, as I am a big fan of the brand (I go to a Redken salon and find that their color is the best of all I've tried). The Acidic Bonding Concentrate range is specifically formulated with an acidic pH to defend against the negative effect of hair coloring, styling tools, and even water - to bring hair back into a healthy pH range. In trials, these products were shown to provide a 56% reduction of breakage, 11X smoother hair, 88% reduction of visual split ends, color fade protection, and ultimate conditioning. Say what? Sign me up!

After the short amount of time I've used these products, I've felt that my hair feels stronger, smoother, and less brittle at the ends. I can't wait to see what prolonged use will do! #redkenpartner #redkenready #acidicbondingconcentrate

BRB... changing my blog name to “Makeup & Comfie BRB... changing my blog name to “Makeup & Comfies” because it’s about all I’ve done this past year. Not mad at it. 💁🏼‍♀️ Who says you need to be all dressed up to put on makeup? You don’t even need a reason or a place to go. It can be for YOU.

There are no rules. Beauty is my self-care, my therapy, and it’s not selfish. I hope I’ve inspired to take a few moments for yourself.

And on a semi-related note- the second part of my 4 part series for makeup for beginners is live! Today we’re talking about bronzer, blush, and highlighter. All the placement and application tips! Hit the link in my bio to give it a watch. 💗
Weekend sweat pants, snuggles, and a squirmy toddl Weekend sweat pants, snuggles, and a squirmy toddler.

Do you use the weekend to prep for the upcoming week? We usually meal plan, do our grocery order, and do little laundry. Helps reduce the chaos by a smidge. 😂
AD. If this past year has taught us anything, it w AD. If this past year has taught us anything, it was that life can change in an instant. The world as we know it can turn upside down within a matter of days. If you’re one of the lucky families like we have been, I hope a year like this was a wake up call to make sure you have a plan in place for your future.

Today’s content is out of my norm, but I think that it’s a super important conversation to have. How are you protecting your family’s future? Let’s talk about life insurance. Do you know if you really have enough coverage, if you even have any? I learned that only 7% of people who have it, have the right amount.

I also learned about @dayfwrd - a new type of life insurance that protects your family by protecting your income. Hit the link in my bio to learn more and why it’s the life insurance made for this generation.
Drugstore tinted moisturizer alert - Wet n Wild Ti Drugstore tinted moisturizer alert - Wet n Wild Tinted Hydrator 🧴💁🏼‍♀️

I did a wear test today of the this new product from @wetnwildbeauty and I was impressed! I’m not usually a tinted moisturizer type of girl, but I always want to try out options to be able to recommend items to you. This product gave a nice light coverage but seemed to perfect my skin. The texture is light and comfortable. I could build it to a medium-ish coverage with no caking, streaking or creasing. I set it with a glowy sheer powder and setting spray (I’m an oily skin type), my makeup looked pretty awesome!

It wore beautifully! I had to run an errand and wore a mask for about 30 minutes and had minimal transfer. At the 10 hour mark (with no touch ups), it looks a little shiny (maybe due to my powder I used), but nothing caked or wore weird at all. My skin doesn’t feel greasy to the touch. I call that a win! 👍🏻

Overall, I think this is a great product, but... and this is a big BUT.... the shade range is terrible. 8 shades is not enough. It’s 2021, y’all. If Wet n Wild can make 20 shades in their other complexion products, why can’t it be done here? The product itself is pretty sheer, but since it can be built up, I think a better range is necessary.

I feel like there is some give in the product so I truly hope a lot of different shades of people can wear it. When I purchased the product, I thought there were more shades but that my store didn’t have them all. I can’t find the product on the brand’s website but other retailers carrying it are only showing 8 shades, so that’s what I’m going with.

And this concludes my wear test recap! If you like these recaps in my feed, let me know! Tag your friends to come follow along and tell them you want to try it. 👯‍♀️

Product is linked on my blog’s shop page (link in bio).
