I’ve gotten quite a few questions lately about how I curl my hair, and what my hair routine is. I’m flattered because I don’t think I am anything special! But, I must be doing something right if people are noticing. I have found a pretty solid hair routine when it comes to products, how often I wash, how I style, and how I maintain my style.
For this post, I’m going to go into what products I’ve been using on my hair lately, how often I wash, and how I do my everyday beachy curls. This hair routine is perfect for fine, color-treated hair.
I have been picking up my hair care products at Kroger, where there is a vast selection of salon and affordable brands. I always find the best prices on my favorite products, and they always have what I’m looking for. Since I try a lot of different brands, I like having that great selection. I can always try something new.
Right now, Kroger is having a beauty event where you can get $5 off your $15 purchase of participating beauty products! The sale runs August 9-22 (item selections vary by store), so make sure to stock up now.
Hair Routine Products I’m Loving Lately
Right now I’ve been into using the Herbal Essences Bio Renew Argan Oil Shampoo and Conditioner. Since my hair is color-treated (bleached with highlights), I like to use a very moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. These leave my hair silky soft. For styling my hair, I’ve been trying out the SheaMoisture Curl & Style Milk, which has been a great multi-purpose product for styling my hair.
Hair Washing Routine
My hair is fine, color-treated, and medium length. I wish I could go 3+ days without washing my hair, but it doesn’t work very well for my hair texture. I wash my hair every 2-3 days. I like to shower at night (I am not a morning person at all). After washing my hair with the Herbal Essences shampoo and conditioner, I will wrap my hair in a towel and let it soak out the excess moisture for about ten minutes.
While I leave my hair in the towel for ten minutes, I will do my night time skincare routine. Then I will take the towel out and comb through my hair. I then will apply the SheaMoisture Curl & Style Milk from about my ears and down. I like to keep my roots as free from product as possible. I’ll then let my hair completely air dry until the next morning. The style milk really helps give my hair a little texture and softness. Air drying my hair really helps prevent damage and it keeps my hair healthy.
Hair Curling Routine
In the morning, I will then style my hair. Most days I rock a beachy curls/waves look. I will take a 1-inch curling iron and curl sections of my hair, leaving the ends out of the iron. This takes me about ten minutes to do.
Leaving the ends of my hair out of the iron isn’t quite enough to achieve the undone look that I want, so I flat iron just the ends of my hair. I absolutely love the effect this gives to the overall style.
I’ll then spray my hair with a bit of hairspray (I love this Dove one you can find at Kroger!). If my hair feels a little flat at the roots, I’ll spray a tiny bit of dry shampoo in.
How I Maintain my Hairstyle In Between Washes
Like many others, dry shampoo is my best friend. I swear by the Batiste Dry Shampoo (also found at Kroger!), as it keeps my hair feeling fresh and clean. If my curls fall a little, I will take a curling iron and re-curl just the front pieces. By day three, I am usually throwing my hair up into a top knot.
This everyday hair routine works really great for my fine, color-treated hair, and best of all, the products I use are very affordable!
