Room Makeovers with Exclusive Furniture Houston

Thank you to Exclusive Furniture for sponsoring our amazing room makeovers. We are now lifelong customers and supporters of this fabulous Houston-owned furniture store.

I’m so excited to recap our room makeovers with Exclusive Furniture Houston with you guys! I have been sharing the process over on Instagram, but thought it would be super fun to compile this all into one blog post. I love a good before and after, so here we are.

It’s crazy to think that we’ve been in our house for just over eight years. When we moved in, I was newly pregnant with Kennedy. We had barely any furniture and were moving into a 5 bedroom home. I remember thinking, “Wow, how will we ever grow into this space?”

This is a shot of our house the day we moved in in 2011! So much has changed since then.

We have since filled this house with memories, so many things, and furniture. Some spaces have taken longer than others to complete, and some spaces are still not done. Our home is still a work in progress. Two kids later and another baby on the way, our lives and home are continuously changing.

Room Makeover Plans

When I was given the opportunity to work with one of Houston’s most trusted furniture stores, Exclusive Furniture Houston, I was ecstatic. I was planning on finishing up a few rooms this year, as we had just found out we were expecting our third baby. This was the perfect opportunity to finally finish these spaces.

First up: moving the girls into a shared bedroom. Kennedy’s room has looked pretty much the same since she was a baby, with the exception of us switching out the crib for a queen size bed. Right around the time of Hurricane Harvey in 2017, our girls started sleeping together in Kennedy’s bed. I remember this explicitly because that was a scary time for all of us (although we did not flood or experience damage), and we let the girls sleep together during those stormy nights. They were sleeping together ever since, and we didn’t fight it. They were happy and sleeping well.

Here’s a before picture… which is pretty awful. Haha. What was I thinking with that green paint color?

When we found out that baby brother was on the way, we talked to the girls about officially moving them in together, but they get their own beds. We talked about how it was going to be their big girl room and Caroline’s room would be baby brother’s. They were so excited about this idea! So, on we moved with the ideas!

Our hopes for their shared big girl room was to transform it into a space that could easily grow with them, or easy to move into different bedrooms if we end up doing that down the road. Kennedy will be a pre-teen before we know it (she turns 8 in December!), and I really wanted to give her (and Caroline) something she wouldn’t outgrow in a few short years. A bunk bed was out of the question for this reason.

The second space we were planning to make over was the upstairs playroom. It had somehow become this huge mess of toys, an old slipcovered couch, and a TV. It was a space that stressed me out because of the clutter and disorganization, so I rarely spent time in that room. I envisioned a big sectional, some bright and airy curtains, a rug, and huge toy decluttering. It would be awesome to be able to hang out and be cozy in the room as our children played. I’d love to have a huge sectional for family movie nights.

Get ready for this horrendous before picture. It’s a doozie.

I figured I wouldn’t even try and pick up the room to show you its perpetual state. My mom’s old couch with a terrible slipcover that never stayed in place. Toys overflowing. Not many storage solutions.

Visiting Exclusive Furniture Houston

When I stepped foot into Exclusive Furniture, I was blown away by the store’s selection, prices, and quality. They really take care of their customers and value the whole shopping experience. They have plenty of snacks and beverages for the family, and even a game room for the kids to play in while the parents shop.

I first visited their Cypress location to learn more about the brand and to meet their awesome owner, Sam! Shortly thereafter, the Webster location opened up very close to where I live and made my final selections. The two locations are very similar in the way they’re set up and I had great experiences in both stores.

Exclusive Furniture Selections

What I really appreciated was their whole section dedicated to kids! I ended up finding gorgeous boho twin beds that fit exactly what I was looking for. After that, my girls got to pick out some wall art, and then I found a pretty rug to tie it all together.

I also found the most amazing comfy sectional! The icing on the cake was the price. I could not believe how affordable such a huge sectional would be. It fits perfectly in our play room.

Like I mentioned, the whole shopping experience at Exclusive Furniture was top notch. I truly will be visiting them first the next time we need to make a furniture purchase. All of our furniture was delivered the next week. They set it all up perfectly and we were good to go!

Let’s not forget that eyesore of a playroom…

Can I get an amen?!

I am just beyond thrilled with the way these two rooms have transformed. All that’s left to do now is to bring sweet baby boy home and enjoy more special moments together as a family of five.

  1. both of these rooms look AMAZING. I’ve been in my house for three years and have aaaaalmost finished the living room. I have all of these big plans, but lack the self control to focus on them. It’s also great that you got these done before the baby arrived, I’m sure that takes some stress off your plate!
