Baby’s first year is an exciting time in parenthood, but it can also get a bit expensive. That’s why we buy certain things in bulk. Buying in bulk isn’t just for large families. We have been Sam’s Club® members for the past year and a half, and have loved being members. It is our go-to spot, especially during football season, because we have friends and family over every week. Buying paper goods and food for the grill was starting to get expensive. I’m of the mindset that I want to avoid shopping as much as I can.
It can be overwhelming to think about how much you’ll need when it comes to baby essentials. I’ve put together a survival kit of what to buy in bulk!
Diapers
It probably isn’t best to buy diapers in bulk when the baby is a newborn, because they seem to go through sizes newborn through 2 very quickly (in my experience). When they reach size 3, they seem to stay in sizes for a while. Caroline has been in size 3 since she was about 6 months old, and she is almost 11 months. Kennedy stayed in size 5 diapers for almost an entire year. When you know your baby is going to stay in a size for a while (or if you have multiples!), buying diapers in bulk is kind of a no-brainer. We recently picked up with Member’s Mark brand and are pleasantly surprised by them! They really have the equal quality of name brands for a lower price. Sam’s also carries name brands like Pampers and Huggies.
Wipes
Whether you like it or not, you will be using baby wipes for the next indeterminate amount of years, even after potty training. Kids are just messy! Buying wipes in bulk is always a good idea because you can quite literally put a pack everywhere in case of emergency. In bedrooms, in the car, in the diaper bag, in the kitchen, etc. I like the Huggies Natural Care wipes.
Diaper Pail Refills
We use a Diaper Genie, and have been since Kennedy was a newborn. Those refills can get expensive. Buying them in bulk at Sam’s costs less per unit. We go through a refill about once a month for Caroline, so we know to pick up a pack of 4 every two months or so.
Bathtime Essentials
Every baby needs a bath. If you’re like me and bathing two at once, you can go through bath products quickly. Buying baby bath products in bulk is a great idea because you are going to use them even into toddler and preschool years. Or you could be like me and snag one of the baby shampoos for yourself to use as makeup brush cleaner. The Aveeno Naturals line at Sam’s is good stuff.
Fruit and Veggie Pouches
When baby starts on solids, pouches will be a necessity. Pureed baby food can get messy when you’re on the go, so pouches are where it’s at. I try to have at least one in the diaper bag at all times. We love the BuddyFruits & Veggies Apple, Spinach & Pear. Caroline loves them, too!
Buying in bulk also happens when it’s just the girls and me. Therefore, photos happen.
Oh, did I also tell you that Kennedy has now become my personal photographer? I’m sure the lovely people at Sam’s thought we had lost our minds…
