Today, You’re Two
Dear Caroline,
Has it really been two years since you took your first breath? Has it really been two years since I sang you “Happy Birthday” for the first time? These two years have flown by, and your life has been nothing but joy amidst the chaos of this world.
Two years ago, you decided you would join us on earth a few days early and ruined mommy’s pedicure plans for that day. It’s okay, though. You’re better than nail polish.
They placed you in my arms, and I was smitten by your big eyes and your full head of dark hair. Your hair still is one of your best features! The day you were born, your eyes were wide open for hours. You had visitors, and everyone that held you was amazed at how awake and alert you were.
We were so happy to meet you. Your sissy cared more about getting snacks from her uncle instead of paying attention to you, but her interest changed once we got home. She’s the best big sister for you. And you know what? You’re the coolest little sister ever.
You’ve always been a mama’s girl. I love having a mama’s girl, even if it did make our hospital stay a little sleepless.
It’s sad to think that I don’t have a little baby anymore. Just look how tiny you used to be!
Now you’re so big. You’re TWO! You’re a wild little creature with so many emotions. You can give the biggest stink face of all time, and two seconds later give a big kiss. You love hard and play hard.
You’ve got so many expressions and use them all… all the time. You are goofy and have a sense of humor, but you’re also serious about what you want. I know these traits in you right now will mold you into a successful young lady.
Caroline, continue being you. The wonderful, beautiful, wild you. One of my greatest joys in life is getting to watch you grow, as sad as I am to see the baby years fade away.
Today, you’re two. Today, you’re one day and one year bigger all at the same time. Today, and always, I love everything that you are.
