Well, friends, I have exactly seven days left until I’m back to work. I thought it would be fun to do a Photo an Hour post to document a typical day of maternity leave for me. In case you missed it, I’ve done three other Photo an Hour posts, one about a summer day last year, a typical work day, and my “snow day”. I love looking into the lives of my favorite people, and I know you guys enjoy the chance to look in on mine. So, here’s a random day from last week! Enjoy your creepin’!
8:00 a.m.
Sweet little Caroline wakes up with a huge spit up that soaks her sheets and the pad that goes in her bassinet. I begin the cleaning process. Lovely wake up call! (As a side note: right now, Caroline typically has one night waking to feed. She is up for the day at different times, between 7:30 and 8:00. I got lucky here with an 8:00 wake up this morning, even if it was a spit up wake up.)
9:00 a.m.
I forgot to make Kennedy’s lunch the night before, so here I am putting it together. Today’s lunch includes a Nutri-Grain bar, sliced bananas, and string cheese. She also gets yogurt (not pictured). Exciting things, people. The day is already off to a super riveting start. I’m about to get both children into the car in order to drop big sister Kennedy off at school.
10:00 a.m.
Now it’s just me and the baby. I started Couch 2 5K back up again, and let me tell you…. I feel out of shape. This here sweet face is my running buddy, and here she is in the jogging stroller. Is it just me, or is it harder to run, even with a jogging stroller? I’m only pushing an eleven pound baby, but it feels harder. I caught a weird cold the next day and haven’t been able to run ever since and it’s kind of killing me.
11:00 a.m.
Here’s that little face again. She just enjoyed her third meal of the day. I’m guilty of holding this sweet pea so much when it’s just her and me. We just had a pretty awesome conversation about the boys we like (confession: we both love the same guy). Her responses were filled with lots of coos, gurgles, and smiles.
12:00 p.m.
Lunch. Greg made this Slow Cooker Quinoa Tex Mex the previous night and it turned out pretty good. Thumbs up from me, especially if I eat it for leftovers (I’m not a big leftovers kind of girl).
1:00 p.m.
Just finished filming a makeup tutorial while Caroline is finishing up a short nap. I feel like blogging has been pretty easy for me during my maternity leave, because I do it when children are asleep or at school or both. I am trying to film a few videos and get some posts worked on before I go back to work so I have something going up the rest of this month.
2:00 p.m.
Big sister Kennedy has been retrieved from school and is now enjoying her snacks. This kid loves snacks. If I let her, I think she would probably only eat Goldfish. And M&Ms.
3:00 p.m.
Kennedy is now upstairs napping, and I’m letting Caroline play on the mat and do some tummy time. I’m basically trying to wear her out so she will nap. I’ve been trying to get them both to nap at the same time in the afternoon and it works most of the time. I feel that’s a huge parenting win right there. It may be very different once I go back to work, but it’s working well for us right now!
4:00 p.m.
Hey! Here’s my face! Both kids are asleep! Hallelujah! Nothing like a face full of makeup while wearing yoga pants.
5:00 p.m.
We are en route to go to McDonald’s. Katie‘s son’s school was having a fundraiser there so we are going to support him and get Kennedy a happy meal. She never turns down an opportunity for some chicken nuggets.
6:00 p.m.
We’re finishing up our dinner and about to head over to the froyo place. I tried to get them both to look at the camera and smile, and this is the best I could get. Nobody is looking at the camera, one kid is staring into space (P’s face cracks me up) and the other likes to say “cheese” and not actually look at the camera. Basically they’re ready to be models.
7:00 p.m.
This picture was actually taken around 7:15 (for shame!), as I was driving when the 7:00 hour struck and it was dark outside. There was really nothing to take a picture of. Oh, and did I mention that Caroline cried the whole way home because of how hungry she was? So, we rushed into the house and I made sure this one got her dinner.
8:00 p.m.
Bedtime for Kennedy. She does a lot of negotiating at bedtime to sing one more song, read one more book. It’s kind of sweet, really. She is so smart. I can’t believe she’s going to be three next month. Awww. Sappy times. Caroline quickly follows suit for her bedtime, as well. I’m getting pretty good at getting these two to sleep around the same time. I don’t want to jinx this, though!
9:00 p.m.
Opened up the laptop to do something real quick as Greg and I settle in to watch Game of Thrones. Spoiler alert: someone important just died. (Haha, that happens every other episode, so it’s not really a spoiler alert. I’m so funny. Laugh at me.)
10:00 p.m.
Yep, this one is still asleep in her baby burrito-like straight jacket. I mean, swaddle.
11:00 p.m.
Pumping and blogging. A dangerously fabulous (or fabulously dangerous?) combination.
I stayed up another hour, but a picture of me on my iPad watching YouTube videos is something I just felt too lazy to do. So there you have it! My day!
I hope you enjoyed taking a peek into my life! I always forget how much fun I have doing these posts and I hope to put another one together once I go back to work.

I would like to point out it was mismatched day at school & that’s why my child is dressed like a hobo lol.
Meg O. says
lol! I honestly can’t even tell. I think the black and white photo masks the hobo-ness.
Kristen says
I absolutely love these posts! I love creeping into other peoples lives and seeing what they really do on a day to day basis. It’s so honest and relatable! I can’t believe your leave is almost over!!! Wasn’t she just born yesterday?
Meg O. says
Glad you enjoyed!!! I love these posts too. And seriously….why is my maternity leave OVER?!?!?!?
colleen says
Love these kinds of posts! I’m totally in awe that you were able to remember to get a picture every hour on the hour. I would never be able to remember to do that, but I think I’ll try for my next DITL post.
Meg O. says
It’s much easier than you think!! I actually set an alarm to remind me to take the first picture, then from there on out, I tell Siri “remind me at ___ o’clock to take a picture.” Works like a charm! Otherwise I would totally fail and forget.
Neely says
Love this! I love day in the life posts. Everytime I say I will do one I fail halfway through the day
Meg O. says
Thank you friend! I actually set an alarm to remind me to take the first picture, then from there on out, I tell Siri “remind me at ___ o’clock to take a picture.” Works like a charm!
Becca @ Becoming Adorrable says
Lurve it. I frequently wear a full face of makeup with yoga pants as well.
Meg O. says
#hardknocklife Hahahaha I love it.

I do love these posts 🙂 Looks like a busy day! So very impressive though! I cannot believe your leave is up already! How are you feeling about it?
Leslie says
What a beautiful running buddy you have! And I just realized that your kids are named Caroline and Kennedy. That makes me so happy! (I have an aunt named Caroline, born in 1962, so I love the reference.)
Anne says
Oh. My. Gosh. I have to steal this idea!! Is that ok with ya? I’ll be sure and credit you in my post.
Meg O. says
Yes! Steal away!!!! I’d love to check out your post! 🙂
